FireBlock PV Membrane
Flat Roof - Above Waterproofing
FireBlock PV Membrane for flat roofs installed above the waterproofing layer is engineered for retrofit fire protection on existing buildings. Positioned directly beneath rooftop solar panels, it enhances fire safety without requiring structural roof modifications.
In the event of a solar panel fire, the membrane acts as a fire barrier above the waterproofing, blocking flames, radiant heat, and hot gases before they penetrate downward into insulation or the roof deck. This helps prevent internal fire spread and structural damage.
As a cost-effective upgrade for existing flat roofs, FireBlock improves solar fire protection performance while supporting higher fire safety standards—without altering established roofing systems.
Active Expansion
When exposed to extreme heat, the membrane rapidly expands to form an insulating barrier layer. This reaction is triggered by intumescent technology built into the material.
Thermal Shielding
The expansion creates a dense, heat-resistant barrier that prevents flames, radiant heat, and hot gases from reaching the insulation and structural layers below.
Roof Preservation
By blocking thermal transfer, the membrane helps maintain the integrity of the roof deck, preventing ignition of combustible materials and structural collapse.

Wondering how FireBlock works, where it fits in the roof, or what it protects?
Below you’ll find clear answers to common questions about fire safety, installation, and performance for both new builds and retrofits with rooftop solar.
FireBlock Solar PV Membrane is a fire-resistant roof membrane designed to prevent fire from spreading from solar panel installations into the underlying roof structure.
FireBlock is designed specifically to mitigate fire risk associated with rooftop solar installations by protecting the roof build-up beneath the panels.

In this configuration, FireBlock PV Membrane is installed directly on top of the existing waterproofing layer and beneath the solar panel mounting system. It forms a continuous fire barrier in the defined safety zone around and under the PV array, without interfering with the primary roof waterproofing.
